Dear Professor C. Rodwell,

Hello, my name is Simon Au and I am writing to you today to explain a bit about myself through a formal letter of introduction. I will touch on subjects such as my intended majors, my plans regarding my future in my desired career, and my goals in general to hopefully help you get a clearer image of who I am.

To begin, my academic goals and plan are standard or underwhelming when compared to other students of the class. I am a freshman at the City College of New York with an undeclared major. When I chose this school, I planned on going to Grove School of Engineering to major in Electrical Engineering. This did not work out as I have planned which leads me to my current goal of obtaining a minimum of a A- in all my courses. This would hopefully allow me to compete with others trying to get into Grove and in terms of long-term goals, I plan on getting a masters and gain experience via internships or part time jobs.

As for my career plans after finishing my academics, I plan on working in a government job to gain experience and stability before moving on to private companies once an opportunity arises. Due to limitations of the Excelsior Scholarship, I will have to stay and work in New York for about five years which worries me if there are job openings outside of the state that interest me. In terms of goals, I was inspired to take this career path from the advancements of technology, mainly robotics. I would really want to be part of developing a machine that could be lifelike or simplifying life for others. Therefore, my long-term goal is to help develop an effective machine that simplifies work.

Finally, I believe that the field of engineering is very crucial in my vision of my future. I envision cities larger than New York that purely use green energy. I imagine the AIs assisting us in many production lines and alleviate some of the strains certain jobs have. The ability to have sky cities or interstellar travel are also some of the perks of the future. All this needs engineers to accomplish, which is why the field of engineering is crucial in the progression of humans as a species. Many problems such as pollution and global warming can be fixed. Overwork, stress, suicide can all be prevented over time and even those who lose limbs can one day walk or grab things. I believe I may not see this future, but it will come true in the distant future.

To conclude, my plans so far is getting better grades in my courses and to one day graduate as an electrical engineer major. My dream is to hopefully get involved in the development of robotic AI systems and machinery. Although the chances for this might be slim, I plan on achieving my goals in my academic career and slowly but surely work my way to a government job at least. These are the current visions of what I want to become.

                                                                                                                                                                   Sincerely,

                                                                                                                                                                               Simon Au
